    Services and Specialties

Physical Therapy is the treatment of disorders of the muscles, bones or joints by means of physical agents – heat, light, water, manual stretching and exercises. Stroke, arthritis, fractures and nerve damage are common conditions treated. The type of treatment needed is prescribed by a physician and carried out under the supervision as a licensed physical therapist. The goal of therapy is to prevent pain or further injury. Therapy may include training different muscles to compensate for ones that have been damaged. Exercises, stretching and pain management modalities are prescribed as treatment for various conditions. Physical therapy is important in sports, not only as part of the conditioning program, but also in treating injuries.

    Sports Rehabilitation

Northwoods Physical Therapy specializes in the care and treatment of athletes at any level (Youth, High School, College, Recreational & Professional)

Each clinic is staffed with highly qualified professionals including Licensed Physical Therapists and Certified Athletic Trainers educated in functionally based exercises as well as agility and coordination drills necessary to progress an athlete from injury through return to play.

Fall Risk Screening and Conditioning Program

At Northwoods Physical Therapy, we encounter seniors daily in the clinical setting. Based on our exposure to seniors, we are able to play a roll in fall prevention. Patients are assessed for strength, balance, gait abnormalities, functional elements and footwear. Studies show that approximately 5% of falls by older adults result in a fracture. 25% of patients over the age of 65 with hip fractures lose significant function and 50% experience a decrease in mobility.

    Our program consists of:

    – Evaluation – Including self assessment of general health, blood pressure and heart rate, lower body strength, balance test and aerobic endurance test.
    – In-clinic and home exercises
    – Re-evaluation – a report summarizes the efffect of the four week program.

    Cancer Related Fatigue (CRF)

Cancer related fatigue is a feeling of extreme tiredness and is usually accompanied by other symptoms. CRF is a debilitating condition that can seriously affect your health and quality of life. Most importantly it can significantly interfere with your home life and may limit the effectiveness of chemotherapy cycles. It is the number one complaint of cancer patients and it is a nearly universal problem affecting 78% to 96% of those undergoing treatment.

Our licensed physical therapists provide specialized therapeutic services that address the needs of CRF patients. Therapy sessions last approximately 30 minutes to one hour depending upon the patient’s tolerance. Average number of visits a week is 2-3. The physical therapy program is concurrent with the cancer therapy and may last throughout the entire treatment phase. CRF is a very complex problem that requires a thorough physical therapy evaluation, where a team approach with the physician is maintained.

    GoodHealth30

Don’t fret. With the GoodHealth30 transitional program you can continue to use the facility equipment to exercise after being discharged from treatment. For a low cost you can use the facility equipment Monday through Friday during our business hours in a friendly environment with familiar faces for a maximum period of 20 consecutive business days or four consecutive weeks. This program invites our clients to utilize our exercise gym in order to maintain their level of conditioning. In the promotion of independence the client is encouraged to practice exercise and training principles learned during treatment.

    FAQ

For Additional Questions Please Contact Us

Can I choose where I want to have therapy?

Yes. The choice of where you receive therapy is always yours. While the majority of our patients come to us by physician referral/recommendation, many clients request to see us due to our strong clinical reputation in the community.

Do I need a physician referral to receive therapy?

We operate in a direct access state where, if your insurance plan authorizes self-referral to physical therapy, a physician referral is not necessary for you to be seen by a licensed therapist. Please check with your insurance though as many health insurance plans require a physician’s referral for therapy to be covered. We also offer treatments, services and/or products that do NOT require a referral and are available on a self-pay basis.

Does your facility accept my insurance?

We participate in the majority of major health insurance plans including Medicare and Worker’s Compensation. Please contact us prior to your first visit to see if we participate with your specific health plan.

Does your facility submit claims to my insurance company?

As a service to our patients, we will gladly file claims with your insurance company on your behalf. In order to appropriately submit these claims, we will need to obtain a copy of your insurance identification card to ensure that we have the necessary information.

    Your First Visit:

Your therapist will conduct an evaluation of your condition lasting between 60-90 minutes. The evaluation is necessary to create a program designed specifically to address your needs for a maximum recovery.

What do I bring on my first visit?

    – Referral slip from your medical doctor
    – Your medical insurance card
    – Your ID
    – If you are getting therapy as a result of a worker’s compensation claim or an automobile accident, you will also need to bring your claim information, including claim number.

Please arrive 15 minutes early on your first visit to fill out any necessary paperwork.

    What do I wear?

We recommend comfortable clothing such as sweatpants or shorts, a T-shirt or tank-top and sneakers.

    How long is each visit?

Each visit will last 60 – 90 minutes on average. Times vary due to the treatment and exercises being performed.

How often do I go to treatment?

The regularity of your visits will be determined after your initial evaluation, but most patients have 3 visits each week scheduled.
